Tribalism rears its ugly head yet again. Presuming there's no supernatural reason for "impurity", it's (unfortunately) incredibly common for social groups to label outsiders as "impure" to create a reason to exclude them. Doubly so for mixed bloods (when it comes to race) when their mere existence undermines the viability of that discriminatory belief.
Turning up the heat on the romance there, eh author? Not bad timing for maximizing drama

Well, ok, fine, it's exactly what I expected. Her parents played at Romeo and Juliet maybe. Now they're gone. Blah blah blah, we end up with a super-confused child.
I'm glad they finally went through the books. I was getting antsy about them.

I don't think we can rule out supernatural complications just yet, but I think it's correct to assume it's just discrimination at work here. Now I'm curious to know where that little paper slip came from.

Been trying to grasp how Kirito and Hayate’s family is tied to Tsukina’s roots. Some say they could be family but if something, probably distant relatives (not to keen on this theory).
This girl Tsukina is braver than we believe, hopefully whatever dumb curse exist, she will be the one who changes it, in her own way. She is loved after all! I’m happy she didn’t dwell on that note found in the scrapbook for so long.
