Main girl is Shirley (ponytail, gets smacked, big talker) the reincarnation of a noble girl from a super corrupt family. Caid (repeatedly mentioned in dialogue, does not appear in this chapter) is her previous life's lover, who overthrew her family, French Revolutioned them, took control, and ruled in peaceful depression for 15 years, while Shirley reincarnates, grows up, and gets employed by him as a maid.
Blah blah blah, they have some angst, they get back together, they have a bit of a tiff with Tim/Wilfried (medium-short hair, talks about being a ghost, hits Shirley) who was also a guy from 15 years ago, who died, and was reincarnated, and is still really mad about it, but they work it out after some minor kidnapping and poison, Tim/Wilfried goes to work somewhere else, and everything looks like it's going to be happily ever after.
They visit the capital for a party, meet the king, meet Prince Marsh (illegitmate son, seems nice) and Princess Azalea (legitimate daughter, seems naive) and everything's fine, until oh no! Assassins come looking for Princess Azalea! Shirley distracts them by pretending to be the princess, and runs around a bit in the garden until Caid comes to save her. The king thanks them by approving of their marriage, and Princess Azalea thanks them by trapping Shirley in a room and saying that she's going to steal Caid now, please and thank you.
Shirley tries to tell her no, but gets locked up some more. Suddenly, while she's stuck, the king dies, Caid's best friend is murdered by "bandits", and Princess Azalea starts acting like this is all great news and means she and Shirley can be besties now. So Shirley tells Caid to escape without her, because the princess is super unhinged and she's worried about him, and he's like "Fine, if you say so" but he looks very unhappy about it. Some of her servant friends stay with her, and things are kind of stable for a while, but the princess is getting crazier by the hour, and her lackeys seem to be encouraging her for some mysterious reason. The prime lackey says some ambiguously threatening things, and Shirley realises her servant friends are in danger. Then chapter 28 happens! That's about it.
