I think it allows for a sensible reason to have a unique mechanic to the world -- you can't depend on superfluous use of them, since it will likely lead to a bounce-back effect.

Which brings too the trade-off for efficacy and safety.

Elpis said the blood of those badger monsters could be used for recovery potions, but it was implied that they weren't as strong or immediate as the ones that contain alcohol.

So an adventurer or whoever has to choose which to use and how to deal with the trade-offs, a simple idea that does bring some interesting moments.
