I know the FMC antics can't carry things by themselves for long, even with how amusingly over the top they have been thus far, but a plot-convenience "love rival" introduced within three chapters is just never not disappointing

one day there will be series mostly driven by characters' internal changes and motivations rather than external nudge factors with the subtlety of wrecking balls... one day

That's actually the norm. Women are generally more likely to compete over the same popular guy than "settle" for what they consider a mediocre option.

Even more bluntly, a lot of women are more willing to SHARE the same popular guy than settle for [what they perceive to be] the lesser option.
