As before, I'm far into "just get over it already" territory.

At this point, nothing is going to get resolved until the manga gets axed.
We just had the resolution of Akira telling Rumi and Aoi her biggest secret.

This is her entire story of figuring herself out, which even for real people is a slow progress, its not going to all be resolved instantly but things are clearly still progressing. If everything was resolved and perfect...the series would be over.

Also its only 71 chapters in. Most series don't resolve much in that amount either.

Im actually gonna die of natural causes before nana shows up
Catching up with this manga was the worst decision I ever made lmao, it's definitely meant more for binge reading

yeah I really have to wonder what Nana will even be like. because like, it's been a decade for her too. Maybe by the time they meet it'll have been more. How big of a deal is all of this to her anymore.

Because like let's be honest right. Everything that happened back then was so impactful for Akira because she got the genderswap disease and was then group assaulted on her first day back to school. And yes the bullying Kid Akira did was serious enough that the teachers really should have stepped in and cleared it up rather than just hiding behind the "boys will be boys" that got Akira (even if the boys didn't realise they were doing it) assaulted. Especially considering Akira really wasn't an outlier in this class, as the teachers happily let all the boys run wild.

Akira definitely did a bunch of really awful things to her, but to a certain extent her guilt over it is so embedded into her psyche because the other boys did just about the worst shit they could have done immediately after becoming a girl. To the point that she still pretty much panics anytime the slightest chance of Nana appears.

So like, yes, maybe Nana won't understand Akira's circumstances. But the more we spend in Akira's head, the more I lean towards Nana probably not being a scary of a final boss as Akira imagines meeting her will be.
I'm also kinda leaning towards the idea that Nana isn't going to care or even remember that much. Maybe an "anti-climatic" conclusion, but I think it best fits what the tone of the story has been and how the author tends to write. Consistently a lot of Akira's angst and struggle stems more from their own fear of being honest to others or themselves and dwelling on the false assumptions (or false importance) of what others will think of them (probably from the trauma of being bullied right at the start). And while the big confrontations so far have been impactful for Akira, they're not like super dramatic or out there in the grand scheme of things. The series plays interpersonal drama pretty realistically and the intrigue comes more from looking at Akira's psyche than the actual situations being anything crazy.

I do think Nana will still be the "final-boss" big conclusion of the series (conclusion of the high school arc perhaps?) but given the tone and themes of the story I can't see it being some crazy dramatic confrontation or something even more out there like her also being genderswapped. I trust the author to still make it a strong and emotional bookend to Akira's growth as a person without jumping the shark, and by far the most realistic reaction for Nana to have to this random 2nd grade classmate from a decade ago is "I don't even remember you that well".

Also a sorta minor thing the author does is showing other characters still progressing their lives and milling about independently even when they're out of Akira's orbit. Idk if I'd go so far to say it's a "theme" but there is sometimes an underlying dichotomy of Akira fussing and dwelling so much on different events while others just continue living their life, and I think it'd make sense to see that with Nana as well.

162 cm is the average height of an American woman. 158 cm is the average height of a Japanese woman. Calling her a giantess is more because the other 2 are tiny than anything else. Seriously, 143 cm is shorter than the average 11 year old Japanese girl.

As an aside, it shouldn't be surprising to me but like, you'd think Akira's non-binary with the "they them them they's" being strewn about. I promise yall you're not gonna have an allergic reaction when you just call her the girl she very much just is now.

But then again, the reason for theythemming is obvious to anyone who isn't transphobic lmao.

The entire manga is about someone coming to an understanding of their gender identity... and last I checked it hasn't finished yet? Even if it seems pretty clear where things are going, I don't see why it's crazy to use neutral pronouns until the story and character actually get there. It's like well intentioned but incessant egg crackers that end up throwing out more gender essentialism than actual transphobic people. The fact that Akira still refers to themself with both masculine and feminine pronouns is literally a plot point... and I'm not sure if the less transphobic position is "you should just call her a girl because she just is one now"

They\them can be used for cis people too .. it is literally "gender neutral" for a reason. Plenty of cis people use they\them or mixed pronouns (i.e. she\they or he\they) too

gender bender series and arguing about pronouns. is there a more iconic duo? perhaps Frieren and people arguing about autism.
