Ruby really doesn't deserve a redemption arc.
I want her to redeem herself to the monsters and continue hating humans. It's way more interesting than her becoming a fully redeemed character. My ideal situation is she would grow to love she care for monster kind and continue to hate Lloyd and everyone else and doesn't ever want to rekindle a friendship or whatever and tells him to fuck off, it would be so much more unique than a generic redemption arc. She already hates people due to her childhood, get preferring monsters makes more sense imo.

Well, will she go and hide to face the cruel reality of this world? Or will she burn brightly for an instance of justice, then fade just as quickly?

TBH, in Ruby and Illoyd case, both of them are at fault.

Ruby is too arrogant, tyranical and dumb, but she isn't really evil. She didn't even know about the danger level of the places Illoyd need to go to get the ingredients for her alchemy. She even really thought about Illoyd as just having decent magic power but his skill in retrieving ingredients is lacking. Yeah, girl is dumb and has one-track mind but not really evil.

Illoyd, I think he is not really blameless. If he can just let Ruby know about the danger of the places he need to go get the ingredients then she would not let him do something so dangerous, Even if Ruby is an abusive girlfriend, she still didn't want him die. He is at fault for not standing up for himself at all and just do everything he is asked. Yeah, he is the kind who would die of overworking if he join a black company.

So a haughty proud girl with one track mind who is obsessed with success and a yes man boyfriend who can't say no :aquadrink: Both of them are talented and hard-working though.

wow, that's a whole lot of character development in one chapter from multiple people.
I respect his resolve, honestly. It's easy to just wash one's hands of an abuser, and I wouldn't fault him for doing so.
But he's staying true to his ideals and his character in still wanting to try and make things right, or at least get closure. It's more mature than I think I would be in his situation, though I'd like to think I could be as upright as he's being.

Ruby I suspect will find redemption, though, and it's one of the few times I've wanted that of her specific archetype of character. Given she'll likely have a hand in saving at least some of the monsters from whatever calamity just befell their village, and with the MC on the way - I have hopes that this will resolve with brighter days ahead for all of them.

Thanks for the TL work.
I do want to see an abusive character like her punished for what she did to Lloyd, but if the author wants to redeem her, I guess I can compromise with a traumatic learning experience, in place of fluffy reasoning.

Raw has it as busshitsu shoukyo masu (物質消去マス). Busshitsu shoukyo is "matter erasing". Masu written in katakana can mean a lot of things. "Mass", "box", "square/tile", "masturbation", and "trout" are the obvious options.

I probably would've gone with "mass", but dunno what the author actually meant. It's been too long since I last read and I don't remember if various magic fish are a thing in this series.

Thanks for the chapter.
"Nothing pisses me off more than doing nothing despite being on the receiving end of kindness" i was about to call her a hypocrite for her treatment of lloyd but ig what she did to him is technically not "nothing". Still hope she gets an actual redemtion arc and learn to properly admit her wrongdoings and atone for them but idt thatll happen.
Fwiw I don't think it's necessarily hypocritical from her, but I don't think it requires thinking about the things she did to him, either. It's a twisted logic, but in her mind they were basically a team (even if she didn't treat him well), so her idea of paying him back for his contributions to the atelier was probably her ensuring the success of the atelier (by creating things with what he gave her).

So she didn't see him as a 3rd party who she had to repay, because his material gathering and her material crafting were just two sides of the same coin of what she saw as a partnership. Unlike these demons, who she's entirely unrelated to, so she feels worse about taking what she basically sees as pity offerings.

Oh I don't want her to get off scott-free or anything. But I do think that an actual well-written redemption could be at play with these specific characters, and would love to see it happen for them.

What the HELL even is this? Ruby's redemption arc in the source material had her hit rock bottom while on the run, get imprisoned, realize she was a monumental piece of shit, and ended with a genuine desire to mend her ways and apologize to Lloyd after starting over as an alchemist from the bottom again. Killing off the entire village she was beginning to feel a part of by a monster stampede, the SAME chapter you dropped the "Lloyd's village was wiped out by monsters backstory" just screams the author is trying to speed run her redemption for some probably stupid reason. Not to mention she's somehow WORSE in the manga than she is in the source material lol.

In the original WN she starts to realizes just how dangerous the places she sent him to and the materials she asked him to get were to acquire after she had run through multiple assistants(including a high rank adventurer) who flat out tell her she is insane to expect someone to be willing to get the materials in the quality she's asking for because its essentially a death sentence which slowly started her down the path of redemption once she got caught after she went on the run(and particularly after she gets sent to the prison island with Black Crow) and had to actually acknowledge how amazing Lloyd truly is.
