Rather than laid back in that way it's more laid back in terms of thinking about his own goals and dreams.

It's been a while but iirc he basically just followed Ruby and did whatever she wanted but never thought about what he wanted. He was being completely passive in his life and just doing whatever others asked of him or expected of him.
