In all honesty, not every story needs to make the reader feel happy. At the very least, that certainly wasn't the vibe we started with here.

This story trope has been beaten to death at this point, but look at Nyanta & Pomeko. It had a somber but still far superior (to me anyway) way of resolving this. The MC was in pretty much an identical situation, but instead of homogenizing into a generic normie like Yukito is and building yet another fucking school harem, he

moved on from the ones that hurt and continued to pine for him and found love with a completely new girl. The ones that hurt him acknowledged what they did and kept their distance (including his mother and sister, he moved out.)

The ending was bittersweet, but felt like it had more authenticity and depth. Or at the very least wasn't bastardized by the editor. Not everything HAS to have a happy Disney ending where everybody wins.

The ending was bittersweet, but felt like it had more authenticity and depth.

I remember this one. The girls from that story are horrible people (except for the FMC) even the stepmother deserves to be hated.

The ending was good and deserved but I don't think it was that in depth. It really feels like they want you to push the MC and FMC together while hating the other characters without giving them a chance.

I think the characters from Ore ni Trauma, at least give you a reason to forgive them (if you wanted to) and not be biased against them.

DAMN, i would have rather liked edgy and broken MC. IF i understand this story correctly, MC was neglected by a single mom, and by the time she noticed that something was wrong with him the irreversible development damage was done.

Worse than neglected actually. Intended or not, his mother forced him into the role of his absent father. He became responsible for her emotional stability and comfort, the shoulder to cry on when the stress of being a single mother was too much for her.

Sadly common story in single parent households, regardless of the gender makeup of the family. Look up "Parentification" if you want to know more.
