This bland chapter was to show this gonna be slopcore through and through, and if you're smart enough you'll know you should drop it.

Well... this is a tipping point for this story, with this Yanderes/Psycho stories, there is always the moment that "why is he still with her?" why is he not talking to the police? And the story needs a good reason to keep going after the reveal.
