What, realistically, can be done here that doesn’t result in the villains’ complete victory? An asspull, I know, but there is essentially nothing that can be done anymore and the author has written himself into a corner that leads directly to the protagonists never being allowed to be together and probably the death of the male MC and the eternal slavery of the female MC.

How did this silly romcom turn into all the characters just being constantly miserable. Like c'mon, give us a glimmer of hope without immediately snuffing it out.
One thing that idly occurred to me is this could be an elaborate plan to get Yoru's guard down. It seems convoluted but when you consider how many times Lily has failed to kill her it makes sense they (whoever's plan this is) would have to work hard for an opening. Maybe the only time she'd be distracted enough is when she's focused on the person she hates most in the entire world.

Same, probably the chief is trying to play the longer game by gaining the demon king's trust so they wouldn't sus her out anytime soon, though it kinda feels bad if she's using Masatora and co. as a bargaining chip to make her less suspicious
