Think he means 'openly' here. That is, he can't go to the teacher or stand up in class and make a public accusation of her since she's acting through a third party and hasn't gotten ahold of any of their messages or other proof.

I think that there are some actual feelings that Hanabi has here, but they're also all wrapped up in this ugly, thorny knot. It's also all a bit The Boy Who Cried Wolf as well, so even when she's telling the truth, she's not going to be believed.

Why hasn't the ex-girlfriend tried apologising for being scum? Like obviously he should never get back together with her because she's the worst, but usually in abusive relationships, there's a cycle where they eventually apologise to lure the victim back in - she at no point has apologised for her awful behaviour to him (from memory anyway).

It'd at the very least, make her ever so slightly more tolerable if she acknowledged her previous wrongs.

Pitful? Seriously? Dude...

Narcissistic and manipulative, she always saw herself as the best in everything and whoever overshadowed her suffered. She fed on how miserable mc was, being "generous" to keep him around made her ego better.

People around aren't to be blamed if her act was convincing, mc though, knew she was lying but "at least she's with me, because there's no one else" overshadowed that urge to stand up.

Those kind of people hardly change, it must be a deep PTSD experience to stop being a center of universe and not use people around.
Had a classmate who acted that way back in primary school, 25 years later, still a full of himself raging manipulative cunt, nobody likes him.

Story is still "fresh", maybe she will fuck up big time and have a "resolve", but mc will be never by her side.

I'm starting to figure out why I have such a disconnect from the Art and the Writing in this series.

The Author writes the Ex-Girlfriend like a Yandere but the Artists desperately want her to come off as a cute little Tsundere and the two clash repeatedly. She'll do something horrible and the writing will have the MC dealing with that in Text Boxes, but the art has her as this overly cutesy chibi with that little fang poking out. You can't have your cake and eat it too, it's making this series have a strong disconnect from the story it's trying to tell.
