Why hasn't the ex-girlfriend tried apologising for being scum? Like obviously he should never get back together with her because she's the worst, but usually in abusive relationships, there's a cycle where they eventually apologise to lure the victim back in - she at no point has apologised for her awful behaviour to him (from memory anyway).

It'd at the very least, make her ever so slightly more tolerable if she acknowledged her previous wrongs.

Because she's too big of a prideful idiot to even realize she was the reason they broke up. That, and/or maybe she's afraid to see how weak and pitiful she really is without MC if she apologizes, even if she were faking it.
