She had a group gang up on him. Like, she doesn't deserve to be blackmailed but why is the story going in this direction in the first place? Sometimes a person sucks and it's okay to move on. Stories need to allow for people to just move on.

manga authors have an obsession with letting abusers off the hook for some reason. is there actually something about japanese society that makes them think they have to include it, or do they think it makes for good storytelling...?

Normally, I dislike the expression, "Am I the only one..." since it's almost never true. But looking at the comments here, yeah, justified. And I mostly want to see it because MMC and FMC are kinda bland. Hanabi is at least a bit spicy, even if she's morally corrupt. As long as it's an actual redemption arc, and not just some quick excuse for one.
