the part where all the members wore sunglasses cracked me up

wonder if maki's character design was inspired by shiraishi mai (ex-nogizaka46 member) who had a skit in a show to walk around wearing sunglasses in public to see if anyone recognized her or not. she's also been lowkey about her highschool days as well

According to an interview, the inspiration for Maki was a model called Ikeda Miyuu. But I guess it could still be an additional influence.

Management never telling them anything in advance has kept being a running gag since day one, it's the one thing they can always count on :p It should give Sham a bit more exposure, I'm curious to see where the author is taking us with that. It's been a fun little arc in general, getting to see how each member perceives what being an idol actually means. Maki has always been a bit aloof, so it figures that she got into it without much thought/direction at first.

Thanks for the chapter.

It's really dragging on though with the idol group becoming the main focus instead of love story between MC and Maina. I guess that's one way for the author to drag it on as much as possible? Gives me Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru vibes...

Hmm, you may be in for a rough time if you're expecting anything serious to develop in that department. She didn't even do it in her prior manga, Manga no Tsukurikata, which had the main pair literally go out from the beginning. In an interview for that series, she stated she does not want to draw full-blown romance in Comic Ryuu because her parents also read it, so it's embarrassing (no comment). Both MnT and OshiBudo are Ryuu titles.

I personally like EriMaina too much to be put off by it (enough to solo scanlate this manga, even), but this is definitely a title for people who are okay with the frustrating kind of "yuri".

I've recommended the series to friends (both the anime and the manga), but always with a '' just don't go in expecting an all out romance, this really isn't that'' caveat. You kinda have to be in that mindset right away or you'll just end up frustrated with what little actual time Eripiyo and Maina spend interacting with each other.

Hmm, thanks for letting me know, now I can just put this on hold until it finishes. I was more into the romance aspect than the "idol life" aspect...

Yeah, this manga was always more of a soft exploration of the fan-idol dynamics from both angles that I think is plenty unique to East Asian cultures. Getting these little gay scenes every once in a while is nice enough as is.
