i think most people who read this weren’t expecting a everyone wins ending. but this is a shitty ending. there are countless sad endings done well. this is shitty stop coping
This is a very good ending and everyone I've seen that is hating on it either hates it because they wanted Aqua to live, they hate sad endings, or they wanted to see characters have sex; none of which are good endings. I really don't want to take some intellectual high ground because it's shitty but it's really hard not to when it seems like everybody was only paying attention to the manga because of the female characters. Basically nobody in this comment section is capable of looking at this manga beyond surface level, and that's not a bad thing, it's just that I don't like Aka getting flak for a good ending because his readers are too dumb to read between the lines

Here's a really unpopular opinion.
I only read this for the art. It was never as dramatically absurd as Citrus, but Oshi no Ko was a slow-moving train wreck.
Did y'all forget that Ruby, with the mind of a young girl, giddily suckled at Ai's breast? This manga was bonkers from the beginning.

The ending is still terrible, but it's not as if this manga was ever great.

this ending, ever since they introduced the crow girl, feels so hollow. What was the point of that crow girl?

The rest of the series since her introduction felt out of focus, with nothing leading to anything substantial. We don’t even get to hear about everyone’s lives after Aqua died, it’s just wrapped up with a narrator.

And Ruby just began telling lies just like Ai did. I wouldn’t even be surprised if she found a man and gets killed off just like Ai did. What are we supposed to make of this “ending”?

What is this, The Sopranos? it just ends with no real character conclusions, nothing changing, just Ruby taking Ai’s place, and Aqua lowkey died for nothing. Wow. So edgy…

I didn't even read through it all, stopped at chapter 42 and only came back after the ending became trending, honestly I'm glad I didn't waste my time on this series. The art is beautiful, character design too, story is ass.
That's about it.

How retarded do you have to be to think that a career is more important than your families life? How stupid can a person be to think that anyone is genuinely made better by this shit?

How can anyone actually think that idol trash is the most important thing to a person.

I mean, who actually gives a shit about celebrities? There is a new one every other week, nobody is truly touched by something like that. It's just like going to a movie, people will care in social media for a week and then jump to the next thing.

I genuinely don't understant this kind of twisted priorities and how the author thinks this shit is reasonable.
His sister got 5-10 years of a happy idol career at the cost of the life of her brother and the closest person, isn't that an equal exchange, no? (sarcasm mode). To make things even harder, let me remind you that she is currently following her mother's path. Imagine what will happen when her idol career ends and she has no reason to hide her pain and trauma in order to inspire and motivate others. What will happen to her, without the career she loves and with the expected meeting face to face with her demons? Especially when we saw with Aqua that Oshi no Ko are quite fatalistic when it comes to the prospect of letting go of severe traumas and the burden of the past. That is, in the long term, Aqua's actions simply planted a time bomb under Ruby's well-being and mental health.

Hahaha, a fusion of "what" and "welp" and "human" for an ending. It felt like things were developing pretty organically and with solid direction until maybe 40ish chapters ago, then suddenly kinda just started dropping plot lines, characters and carefully constructed build-up completely. Simultaneously compelling and weird, like suddenly they were told from on high to change directions and wrap things up, or some life event happened that compelled him to/changed his mind, or he just decided he was in over his head or who knows. I suppose it's even a little meta in how weird the entertainment industry itself really is sometimes, but man I'm left kinda befuddled as much anything? Don't really know what to make of what happened here, but it was a helluva ride?

And I guess I really can give it some credit, amidst a really weird ending, for actually just kinda sticking to it, no magical revivals, nothing drawn out, no fairy tale, nope almost with a touch of irony it was basically what it said on the tin in the end. There are still tons of lies, the real truth will never be fully known, yet people can still have fun and live on anyway which is its own truth. Maybe that is something of a human ending not in spite of but because of its many, many flaws and things left undone, promises and potential left unfulfilled. That probably describes a lot of the lives of those of us here today if we reflect back. "What might have been", but here we are and we have to forge on.

Anyway, fin. I guess it was pretty unique in a lot of ways and will probably be remembered in a way many series aren't? And it is a firm ending. But geez feels like half the story is behind the story.

Eh, she can probably transition into being a serious actress. And a decade or more is honestly a pretty long time, particularly when you're that young. My perspective was radically different in my teens vs my 20s let alone 30s. People can be fragile, but overall I think people are tougher then has become fashionable to give them credit for. And Ruby has definitely had the experiences, both in her first life and her current one, to make her a tough cookie. If she has a decade of good experiences and a bunch of close friends/colleagues and so on I think she could succeed and have a good long happy life in the end.

Yeah, people who protect the ending, keep coping that everybody is furious due to Aqua death and not because side characters stories are unfinished and Ruby became what Aqua DIDN'T want her to be. It could have been better even with Aqua death, but hell nah, Aka already has a new manga to make

But Ruby had no other goals or interests. Thanks to Aka, her whole meaning in life is literally being an idol star who inspires others. But now she constantly struggles with the pain and sadness that eats away at her, and God knows what will happen when her motivation to do so disappears. After all, think about it, actresses are not idols, they don’t need to portray a fake happy image, etc.. They are required to have a very different range of emotions and personalities. Just remember how Aqua suffered due to the depiction of suffering and grief, as he was actually traumatized. Or how Akane became unstable due to problems in the movie and TV show. Not even mentioning that Ruby doesn't necessarily have the talent for it (bad acting idols have long been a meme in dorama fandom), even geniuses like Kana had trouble.

That is, either Ruby will become the archetypal depressed and traumatized comedian a la Jim Carrey, or she will break down once she gets rid of the need to fake joy to motivate others. And in general, all support that she has are friends and a foster mother Will she repeat Ai’s path with an ill-considered pregnancy in an attempt to find closer and more important people to replace Goro/brother (I doubt that an asexual life with a lot of cats and hanging out with friends can be called a happy ending) ? In general, Aqua literally gave his life to the god of randomness.
