Unless the earrings are coming up again in a future plot (like her losing them and needing to find them or something), then there has been no real movement in this chapter. And I'm perfectly fine with that, this nice honey sweet chapter.

That ind of cliche plot would be nonsense here. It wasn't even a gift, after all.

This chapter will be especially worthwhile if we actually see her wearing the earrings (or I guess, earring) in future chapters, since that kind of incremental progress is what makes the big jumps believable.

I think the real indicator is if she shows up with her other ear pierced after this, wearing the set he picked out.
That might be "too much" all at once at this point, but it's the sort of progress marker I think fits, for this title specifically, and with Izumi's personality in particular.
