chapter gets sniped -> previous group get's told no one cares if they are the one scanlating it -> the group that gets sniped drops the manga -> sniper was just a one off thing or someone with far lower quality trying to make a quick buck -> manga doesn't get tled for a very longBut why would that matter? Isn't the scanlator who gets to decide what they want to translate? Why is it suddenly in a scale of "It's for the greater good"
What are you talking about? The other guy's point was just that there's no reason for a sniper to waste their energy scanlating something that's already guaranteed to receive a scanlation, so it can be better used elsewhere. How did you interpret that as "it's for the greater good" or whatever? But why would that matter? Isn't the scanlator who gets to decide what they want to translate? Why is it suddenly in a scale of "It's for the greater good". Like, i've seen that argument from people complaining at a cashier who wants to see their cashier's manager by making their own desires for the "good of everyone". It doesn't feel genuine.
But aren't those all assumptions? Like a slippery slope argument of "You do this and all hell breaks loose". I've also seen the opposite. A scanlation who gets dibs, and then hold it hostage behind a paywall, so we also don't get to see anything for a long time. Why do we as a community get to decide whether they should or shouldn't?chapter gets sniped -> previous group get's told no one cares if they are the one scanlating it -> the group that gets sniped drops the manga -> sniper was just a one off thing or someone with far lower quality trying to make a quick buck -> manga doesn't get tled for a very long
then again if you don't care about reading the manga in english again, scan quality or the time & effort it takes to do a proper scanlation then yeah, it doesn't matter and you should just go to the official raw provider and use nothing but google lense to read manga
My dude, if someone holds manga hostage, then no one complains that someone takes it. People hate groups that hold manga hostage. But aren't those all assumptions? In a way it is a slippery slope but it isn’t exactly a fallacious statement(not all slippery slopes are fallacies). The concern being expressed is because there are evidences where such things have occurred in the past. It is a valid concern for the community since sniping has been a cause that have led to long term scanlation projects being abandoned by the originally scanlating groups. So while yes you are correct in this being an assumption, it is not a unfounded(unbacked) or irrational concern. It is also a valid concern in terms of ethics in the community since fan scanlations deeply rely on the goodwill and trust of the people. When that is lost then the consequences may no longer be hypothetical since it is a recurring pattern. While yes you are right about some being locked behind paywalls, the solution isn’t to outright disregard caution, but rather balance the responsibilities and freedom within the community in order to have releases in the first place. But aren't those all assumptions? Nobody is claiming that sniping is against the rules, but there's also this thing called "common courtesy". That's even brought up in the last sentence of the comment you posted, when talking about respect. It's not a rule, but it's very well established in the community that if another group is already translating a series to a decent standard and not participating in the type of cunt behaviour that groups like GDS do, then it's a dick move to just swoop in and start sniping chapters from them - especially when the previous chapters were uploaded a matter of days ago and the current group is clearly working through the backlog at a decent pace, as is the case here.![]()
Heres the answer to if sniping is okay or not dont argue with me argue with teasday about it okay? (I dont snipe because Im to lazy to)
I agree its a dick move but Im just saying its fine to do you will get hate for it thought. If someone paywalls chapter PLEASE SNIPE THEM but otherwise do it at your own risk.Nobody is claiming that sniping is against the rules, but there's also this thing called "common courtesy". My thing is kinda unrelated to this since I wasn’t saying whether sniping should be allowed or not. I was just expressing that it is a valid concern to fear that sniping may cause a series to be dropped by scanlation teams since it has happened before.![]()

Thats completely fair and understandable! My thing is kinda unrelated to this since I wasn’t saying whether sniping should be allowed or not. I was just expressing that it is a valid concern to fear that sniping may cause a series to be dropped by scanlation teams since it has happened before.
And I can’t say for certain that this is the “answer” to sniping being ok or not since it can be viewed in many ways. In this case yes it is ok since there are no specific rules about it, so it may be viewed as ok. This may be a red herring but I find this take similar to legality vs morality vs ethicality. Yk how some things are legal, but you would say are immoral? I see sniping like this. Rules wise and all it’s totally a-ok but morally i find it wrong etc etc ykwim
It was a good translation, and I sincerely hope the response to this one doesn't put you off doing more. Maybe not this specific manga, but there's a ton that got dropped or are being held back by scanlators for no reason and could use some love.Im sorry, I did not know what sniping is and I will stop translating this manga.
So? As I clearly stated, I don't know how many chapters there are raws for and neither do I know about how this group does things.Dawg the last chapter was uploaded less than a week ago
The raw Chapter 3 was released yesterday
