Having read both versions, I'd say overall I like the TL here more, stuff like page 11 just doesn't make much sense in the other one. But I like the typesetting from the other group more, which makes sense since they got more experience. They said they're recruiting, maybe try to reach out for combined work? Genuinely prefer this TL to the other though.

Im sorry, I did not know what sniping is and I will stop translating this manga.
Your TL was honestly better, it made more sense and was more readable, it only lacked the typesetting quality that just comes with experience. Honestly I would love to continue reading your TL, maybe ask the other group if you could TL for them? Or, you know, just crack on honestly, it's not as big of a deal as some others make it out to be, especially when the TL quality is so evidently superior.

God this sucks so much, every chapter is the same. How about a bit of character development for once.

I'm confused. Why would you not need permission from the author, but need permission from the scanlators who don't own anything and also didn't get permission from the author? This seems like a confusing moral code this community has built up.
Honestly it's a little bit obsolete. It made more sense when scanlating a manga was significantly more work. You had to get the hand of physical raws, scan and clean them, and you didn't have access to a lot of the helpful stuff these days like content aware fill, AI generative fill, MTL, automatic cleaning (panel cleaner), typesetter tools and similar. Now the significantly hard work that usually had to be done by several people can easily be done by just one guy with digital raws. You can clean, redraw, translate, and typeset a chapter in like 30 minutes easily by yourself by using the right tools if you want.

So yeah, I'm not particularly fond of sniping because of course it can be demotivating for the groups that claimed dibs, but remember that they don't have any rights whatsoever to the manga to begin with, it's piracy after all. There are some issues like that the first chapter out is the only one that's picked up by aggregators, so if the first one released is a speed MTL scan that's of course going to suck since that's the one most people are going to read and interact with the community on in forums, comments, and discord or whatever. So that sucks both a bit for the group that put in significantly more effort, but also for most of the readers who most likely only will read the inferior release.

I mostly make garbage speed scans, but nobody wants to work on the stuff I scanlate anyway. God I wished someone would snipe me. But they never do.

Heres the answer to if sniping is okay or not dont argue with me argue with teasday about it okay? (I dont snipe because Im to lazy to)
What I gave there was not an answer to whether "sniping is okay" in general. I was talking about a situation where one group wanted to translate something and was strongarmed by another to drop it instead. It was about when you should be respectful to the other group, and that didn't seem like one of those cases.

Multiple people are allowed to upload their own versions of the same chapters, yes. Whether it's respectful or a good idea is another matter. Personally, I would take a serious look at the quality of my scanlation compared to the established group's before trying to get mine out before theirs.

Once upon a time, a group used to snipe every manga and release the ch after doing a really bad translation. That group used to upload the ch moments after the raws were public. This discouraged the actual good translating group from translating the manga.
Sniping any manga is not good but if the group makes money through paywalls then fuck them.

Thank you for translating, and good luck with future translations! Situations like these make me realise the extent people will go through just to let everyone around the globe read a silly manga. This silly manga is really starting to remind me of Kubo won't let me be invisible or Shikimore, I hope they give us some nice background characters or else im fuuuumin

Dear TL, if you are going to snipe, please snipe Galaxy Degen stuff, they like to hold hostage manga and only release at the limit of 3 months wait or when others snipe them.

I don't mind alternate releases for something from random people, but if you're going to do it please make sure your quality if at least on par with theirs (like lettering)!

It's not obsolete, it's nonsense. In the first place, scanlation is supposed to be as much of a hobby as reading the end product. You can't expect a scanlator to just go and work on something else, because the title is already "taken" - he wants to scalnate this particular thing or nothing at all and that's fair. The whole "dibs" system is a departure from everything that used to define the community and it's only purpose was always just so that groups can make money either off ads on their sites or donations - which is not only sickening, but leads to the kind of late-stage for-profit scanlation we've been seeing for some time now: paywalling, trying to bully others from touching "their" series, massive degradation in quality due to low or no effort given (it's supposed to be a quick buck, after all) and others.

Yeah, I've more often been at the other side where a group called dibs on something I worked on or started to work on, we agreed that they could do it, and then they just ghosted the whole project. Has happened to me like three times. And if I put out a chapter myself, they got mad. I'm probably just not going to care next time it happens again
