They're literally schoolmates and are in the same room together. He is supposed to just never interact with anyone who is friend with his brother? How does that make any sense?

He was curious about the person his little brother has been spending a lot of time with. It's a completely normal thing for any human being to do.

He is interacting with Houjou not because they are schoolmates and are in the same room together, he approached her specifically because she is his brother's friend. After many years of not caring about why Youta is so broody, is he owed in any way to have his curiosity about his brother's friends be satiated? How is it any of his business who Youta is spending his time with? If he doesn't care enough to help his little bro, he should be just staying out of it like he always does, not be entitled to his brother's relationships

I really hope he discovers it, and I really hope this makes him take some attitude towards said harpies and that he learns that it's impossible to make everyone happy (wich would be positive to himself)

goddamn misunderstanding sucks. But the author has been building up to this since like chapter 1, I have faith that the author can deliver since this is the make or break moment of this manga. The entire arc of the MC is learning to trust FMC after having been used so many times, so watching her interact with the older brother is like a climactic final boss moment.

Then again, there are games where you meet the final boss early and are scripted to lose.

Everyone is complaining and calling it a lazy or bullshit misunderstanding arc or whatever, but I really don't think that's fair to the story. It's been perfectly established that his character has massive insecurity due to being used and abused by almost every woman in his life in an attempt to get closer to his older brother. We know that early on, that's how he saw the FMC, and over the course of the story, he slowly lets her in and tries to get over it. Even in this chapter, we see him trying to reason with himself that she isn't like that, but he's fighting an uphill battle against his own inferiority complex, and ultimately, it wins out. This sort of thing was just inevitable for any progress to happen between them beyond just friendship. At one point or another, this would have happened because, if they do start dating, are we really expecting she just won't have any contact ever with his brother, whom he is close with? It's silly; of course she would. This interaction is crucial to his development because he needs to learn beyond a shadow of a doubt that not every woman who tries to get close to him will use him like that, so that he can actually begin to genuinely move past his complexes and fully let her into his heart.

Ahh yes a therapist will always tell you. The best way to get over a crippling insecurity is to just completely avoid it.

I agree. Youta will have to face his insecurities one way or another. I just hope this will be quick and we'll again be able to enjoy this sweet parade.

This was inevitable. I think usually these misunderstandings are pointless, but in this case this was bound to happen. He’s too insecure and her spending so much time with Tohno she was bound to talk to Rei about him at some point. And unfortunately both Houjou and Rei are deeply oblivious people.

He even says himself that he knows Houjou isn’t like that but he can’t help it.

My hope is that Tohno’s sliver of self awareness saves us from this dragging out too much lol.

Where does "walking on egg shells" come from? Is he being forced to interact with his brother's friends in any way? Houjo is a stranger to him, what business does he have with her?

So if they do end up dating is Rei just expected to not interact wigh her? Because due to how the character is written and premise of the manga he was always going to end up spiraling from his complex. Literally the only way past where the Mc and Fmc are is for him to fully get over his trauma and complex surrounding women, which he can't do if he just ignores it and everyone moves around it.

Edit: had some time to sleep on this and add some more of my thoughts. This absolutely needed to happen and I’m glad it’s happening now rather than after 30 more chapters. Just rip the bandaid off now.

No one is to blame in this situation. Rei and Houjou are talking and they are talking about Yuito positively, it’s a cute wholesome moment between the two. I love it. Yuito still has his deep seated insecurities so it’s perfectly reasonable for him to react the way he did. Personally I wish he had a little more faith in Houjou after everything they’ve been through so far, but it’s whatever, he’s traumatized.

Now, with that said, I hope to god this gets resolved quickly. The author has earned my trust so far, but it can be easily broken with bullshit. Let’s see how this plays out.
