Rei is such a clueless oaf when it comes to his little brother, like, he should have grasped by this point where do his insecuruties come from and maybe refrained from talking to the one person he didn't need to talk to in the vicinity of his little bro
This is dumb. That would require him to be a mind reader for one, and second, as the previous chapter went into Rei has his own struggles. The brothers need to talk, relationships are a two way street it's on both of them to communicate.

So everyone has talked about the obvious stuff with Youta's PTSD so here's something else:

I'm waiting for Rei to finds out how girls obsessed with his forced persona have been traumatising his brother.

His perfect persona is an issue he suffers with and he started acting like that out of wanting to be admired by his brother. He wants to escape it so finding out will push him to break his persona, but at the same time it will break him knowing how much suffering he triggered for his brother and hasn't known for years.

i mean, if it was about a single isolated event, you'd be right. I'm saying this as an older brother that you instinctively feel responsible for your younger siblings, in more than one way (like a quasi-parent). He (Rei) should've noticed, by now, that his so called admirers are using and causing his little brother trouble (I mean come on, how many times this happened now?). I'd give him some leeway if they didn't attend to the same school, but since they do, I gotta admit 'I didn't know' won't cut it here, he's kinda at fault. Not the main offender, that'd be the girls who used Tohno, but again you can not be this obvious as an older sibling.

OK, my general thought regarding this - I like this arc, because it is time to address Youta's trauma

But if this arc doesn't end up with not only Youta and Izumi reconcile and clear the misunderstanding but without Rei reflecting on his own actions then I personally be mad. The guy literally declares that he "loves" his little brother but didn't *** care that this very same little brother grew gloomier and gloomier over the years, never tried to speak with any of his friends to get a bit of understanding of what is going on, because I refuse to believe that no rumors about how these girls tried to use him all this time have never reached Rei at all. This whole "prince act" is nothing but showing how selfish and egocentric Rei really is - he might trying to say that this is to "make people happy", but he really just likes attention otherwise it is hard to explain why he keeps up with this bullshit for years burning all his energy in public and literally dumping all the house chores on his younger brother. And even now, he decided to dig in solely to satisfy his own curiosity. Yes, he might be doing this without any ill intention towards Youta, but this does not redeem him, because harm is already inflicted regardless of intentions

I hope that this will drag for at least a few chapters with him raising his "walls", snap on or ignore both Izumi (who's not in real fault here, though her behavior is a bit weird in this chapter) and Rei. Especially to Rei at least SOME change in behavior and how they interact - even a small thing like Rei lying down after his "burnout acting" and asking Youta to do something and him replying "maybe you do something on your own at home for once in a while"

It was obvious this was going to happen, and anyone who's going to criticize or talk trash about the manga is stupid. This is going to be important for the manga's story, so we just have to see how it unfolds

While Reiya isn't at fault for Youta's grief, he is very much the cause of it, indirectly or directly, though not to imply Reiya owes it to Youta to alleviate his grief. I am not calling him "malicious", I am calling him "clueless", malicious is how Rei would come out if one starts interpreting him approaching Houjou as an act of "therapy" for Youta.

Even if Youta understands that his brother isn't at fault, there is some resentment coming from Youta, he did want ot desperately beat him at something after all, and this resentment only subdued thanks to Houjou's involvement, though not necessarily fully disappeared, so I wouldn't call their relatinship entirely intact either. And even if there was no resentment altogether, there are still boundaries of how much one should be getting involved with someone else's personal life, and it doesn't seem to me that Rei's close enough with Youta to start randomly approaching his friends who haven't been introduced to him. Or at the very least, they are not close enough for Youta's grief to be Reiya's problem, therefore I can't see how Youta's relationship with Houjou is Reiya's business.

Yeah, as I've said, clueless. The ridiculous premise of this manga, this pipeline of girls cozying up to Youta to get closer to Reiya, and the part where Reyia ends up taking everything whenever he's competing with Youta, and the grief this all ends up causing to Youta, this all flew past him.

Story-wise, yes, a resolution is being set and communication will happen, but not because Rei is taking active and deliberate steps to help Youta's situation, but because that's how this story will play out because Rei happened to bumble into it. If Rei explicitly sought communication about Youta's problems, I could think of a simpler approach that wouldn't need to involve making contact with Houjou first.

I think the biggest problem with your take here is that you want there to be a "bad guy" in this manga, and that's just not happening in this series.

There's no "antagonist" to this story from a writing standpoint, and that's made clear when we get Reiya's POV chapters and an expansion of the relationship between Reiya and Youta and the backstory between them. You blame Reiya for taking everything from Youta, but neither of them are portrayed as thinking of it that way—Reiya competes his hardest because Youta actually pushes him to that point and makes him really give his all in order to seriously make an effort, and Youta sees his brother as a moving target to aspire to and it's pushed him to greater heights.
They have a good relationship. It's never alluded to any other way, and even Reiya's "clueless" nature is justified by his own struggles with trying to maintain a certain image, born out of a need to try and be the best version of himself possible for Youta specifically.

They need to talk, yes. But that's what's being set up here. It's through the involvement of Houjou, because she's important to Youta, and Youta's important to her.

But Reiya isn't an antagonist in this story, and trying to frame him as such is arguably a misread of the series. The author's done a remarkable job of character writing and narrative setup to where this moment has been building up for some time, and it needs to happen to ensure Youta, but also Reiya, grow as people and confront the things in the way of that.

From everything we've been given in the story to this point, I'd argue that Youta himself would disagree with you and how hard you want to villainize his brother.

This conflict has been inevitable since the first chapter. Its literally what the story has been building to from the jump
This is the first level headed response in this thread. The fact this is happening means that the two of them getting together is only that much closer.

How else do people think character development happens lol

yeah i get what you are talking about in the latter half for story purposes i have no issue i mean thats the whole point most people started this manga to begin with, however there is a character inconsistency for a guy who loves and does the whole perfect persona for his brother and Rei HAS shown awareness in these things he is majorly stupid in being mindful when it matters, his insecurity is glaringly obvious if yukimura could tell in just seconds from his expression

So—You're misinterpreting Yukimura's contribution to the chapter.
Yukimura isn't cluing in on Youta's insecurity. She's cluing in on Youta's staring at Houjou, and is deducing that something is going on there.

This is her realizing that Youta might have feelings for Houjou. That's it. Nothing else. And it wouldn't be her place to say something in that moment about that specifically.
But I expect she'll come back into play on Reiya's side of things and assist from that angle, after the tension has increased a bit more with Youta pulling away and Houjou (and subsequently Reiya) being confused and concerned.

You know what a kino resolution would be? Communication of course, having it cleared up reasonably, but followed by her talking about how his brother was showing her pictures of him and he gets nuclear embarrassed.

“Fuck she’s after my brother”
To
“Oh god he’s embarrassing me”

The jump in chapter comments… Oh so we're all tweaking out I see
There's three types of people in here lol

Wanting Youta to be happy VS taking Rei side for some reason (It's full on war between two)

And third, who are just watching this all unfold with bucket of popcorn in their hand.

I'm on wanting Youta to be happy side because Rei is worthless and shame as a big brother.
