Guy should have picked a hobby that's better than extravagant spending...
It's an okayish story, but it doesn't feel like a horror to me? Reads more like some moralistic parable. Though I guess a culture where people can become so highly isolated that they have to pay high prices for amiable company is rather dreadful too. The "twist" and the ending just came way too suddenly for me.
I wonder if he died only because he overdrew?
