MC is dumb, naive and uninteresting. Dude wasted 15 years of his youth without exploring his potential and still think the king is decent.

He still has the skill hero growth and environmental adaptation isn’t it. Why not using it for good but just hole up there for nothing. Wasting his life.

The dragon suck too. She literally about to die from a shallow wound which can be treated by stitching a bit. ???

i swear, every time someone is new they always use default font that is harsh to read. I'm pretty sure there are resources out there that have the nice fonts to read out there. Anyways TL is tolerable

another esl google doc scanlation done by a guatemalan drug trafficker or myanmarian revolutionary fighter looking for downtime after beheading a pro-dictatorial news reporter
It's never an ESL TL where the first language of the TL is japanese. At least it never seems like it

@rollialana I primarily use the font Anime Ace but other popular ones are Manga Temple and Wild Words. Dafont has a boatload of fonts to choose from so just browse through and find a couple you like and test them out.

Also remember that there are big scanlation groups out there with trash translations that don't get this much shit.

What i also wanted to ask, i tryed to stay as close to what the japanese original "translate" to but sometimes it doesnt make much sence so is it ok to make some better fitting shit up or is that a big nono?
And if you have some more tips i would welcome them, after seeing you did a lot of tl yourselfe.

Teaming up with the proofreader would probably go a long way to improving the quality. When you're writing, you have the meaning of what you want to say in your head. Part of learning to write well is knowing how to put your thoughts down in a way the reader can fully understand your thoughts.

A proofreader can do that - they can't read your mind so they'll be able to spot right away if something doesn't quite make sense or is phrased in a strange way. That's important for languages like Japanese where they leave out a lot of context and use a lot of indirection.

The first few pages are a good example. "Hero..." "Unqualified?" doesn't sound like a native English speaker. Something like "I'm unqualified..." " to be a hero?" sounds more natural. And the king yelling "Cut!" doesn't make sense either. I'd replace that with something like "That's it!" Even though that's not a literal translation, it gets the point across and sounds more natural.

Anyway, don't let the haters get you down. Assholes always tend to be the loudest minority(1). Scanlation is a skill, and you get better the more you do it. Most of us on here understand that.

Everyone, even the big boy official translators, will rewrite stuff to have it make sense and flow correctly. It's just the nature of the Japanese sentence structure. I rewrite some stuff with smaller words just to make the typeset fit in the bubbles. Like how am I supposed to fit the word uncontrollably into one of those teeny tiny speech bubbles?

For proofreading if you don't have a second set of eyes to look at it, after finishing the chapter step away from it and do something else for a bit then come back and do a full chapter read. That way you're no longer in translator mode and can just take the whole thing in. I'm constantly going back and changing stuff in the proofread after taking a break.

Also pretty sure they were trolling you telling you to use comic sans. It's a universally hated font. Also stay away from Papyrus and anything you wrote a school paper in.

Doing the translations yourself gives you the chance to take out your frustrations with any pet peeves. Like I will intentionally stay away from the word delicious at every opportunity I can because it seems like people can't come up with another adjective for good tasting food. Also gave me a chance to correct using Japanese honorifics in a European setting. Like why would a medieval European-esque person ever use San or Sama?

Also also get ready to tear your hair out trying to figure out what they mean when using Katakana to write out a name.

Yea the first page was somthing i myself realiced was realy hard to get a"flow". I am already reworking it for the 3rd time, best example i changed it to: i am a hero? ... a usless one... . Still dont know if that is much better bit we will see. I am always open for ideas for changes, but comends like the one someone made:" the translater is a retard " dont help that much in making it betterXD.

If they break it up backwards between dialogue bubbles, don't be afraid to rewrite the whole sentence like how it would be in English. Then speak out the line and figure out how to break it up between the two.

Oh another tip is figuring out how to do an outer glow on text. That way you can have text stand out from the background. Each program does it differently though. GIMP is frustratingly complicated at times.

The MC seems a little slow in the head. Though he was insta shocked by being sent to another world, called useless, about to lose his head then become decorative. Thats a whole lot of trauma in mere moments so no surprise his mind broke and grabbing at his only hope for survival. Plus he seemed to have enjoyed working as a blacksmith. Perhaps he will grow into himself once more.

The translation it's pretty good now, it's just that the mc act like a 12-13 yeah which is annoying abut what bothers more is that he is already 40+ it's hard to expect any character grow in him if in all that time he didn't mature

The translation seems alright. The MC... well, he is somewhat retarded though.
Seriously, how is "hero growth" not considered a hero trait? He didn't even seem to have bothered to try fighting monsters to level up or anything, just did some dirty blacksmith work... and for 15 years too.

Too much bitching about the translation. Not enough appreciation of the dragon waifu
