Hello again!

A series called «Shino and Ren» popped up on my feed recently, so I decided to check out what other works the artist had and here we are. This short manga features two of Chigusa Minori’s original characters, Kurosu Owari (the little sister) and Kurosu Hajime (the big brother).

Once again, thanks to B吧娘汉化组 (the translated name is too long) for their scanlation. I did consult the original raws this time though since there were some differences, so here are some translation notes (both regarding Page 1):

1) The bracketed “faves” in the original Japanese text is 推し (oshi), meaning “one’s favourite idol”. Honestly, I’ve never understood why I’ve never seen it translated as “bias”, which seems to be the perfect translation for it; please let me know if I’m mistaken. That being said, “biases” didn’t sound right here, so I just went with “faves”.

2) The original remark about the gacha pull uses the word 神引き (kamibiki), a gacha game term for pulling an extremely rare character. There’s no equivalent term in English, but I thought that the allusions to rarity and divinity (神 means “god”) were enough to justify localizing it as something to do with our Lord and Saviour RNGesus.
The Chinese scanlation translates this part as 超欧 (chāo ōu), where 欧 (the transcription of “Europe”) is Chinese gacha slang for great luck, while 非 (meaning “non-”, but also the transcription of “Africa”) means bad luck... Truly one of the slang terms of all time.

Thanks for reading!

I've seen Bias used and I absolutely hate it. It sounds so damn awkward. Why are you trying so hard to use an adjective as a noun?

I guess bias is more used in kpop context than weeb context. Tbh I have seen a lot of people just straight up use oshi as is.

Biases will never sound right because it's just not how the word works in English. When you say you have biases you mean you have feelings that can be both good or bad towards something. When you're talking about your Oshi you're talking about your favorite idol/character/vtuber/whatever it's a specific thing, not your feelings about said thing.
