It's a dumb plan. So you wait until Christmas and put everything on the other party. Just so you can then wait again until valentines? Okay a deadline is MUCH better. Valentine's Day is even still within the same school year (in Japan). So they just started as second years and will definitely confess or be confessed to before they move up to their third and final year (where we've also just been told they'll have to pick an elective/study course). Pretty good track to end the series or present a third year that's a lot more of an epilogue in feeling with a different status quo.
