This work is grounded in "reality". Characters do act like regular people. And there is no footnote stating polygamy is officially accepted, so there are very low chances

Im willing to be factually wrong, but in my mind, polyamory is when there is at least 4 people, with 2 sets of partners(that can be intermingled between both, e.g. girl->guy<->girl<-guy, tho of course it doesn't have to be "open ended")

No exactly. Polyamory is more when all the involved parts are, well, involved. Generally this would mean that in a poly with 3 people at least two of them are bi.
Of course, there is other ways of poly but would be kind of complex (the other way would be that he could be with the two, be they could also have a relationship with other boys).
When is a relationship where you have everything centered in one person then we have polygamy.

Of course, your example is also polyamory. But you can have polyamory with 3, if is the way I explained above.

Polyamory is just any type of romantic relationship with more than two people. It could be one person with two partners where the partners are aware of each other and consent. The "gamy" in polygamy refers to marriage (from Ancient Greek γᾰ́μος (gámos), meaning literally "marriage"), so that's at least one person married to more than one other person at the same time.
