So, essentially, Erika created a fantasy world based on her childhood experiences, while simultaneously carrying the frustrations she felt toward her father. The fact that the country is engaged in an expansionist war reflects her father's focus on his work rather than on her. This entire world served as a way for her to escape a reality that upset her. The problem arises when her real father comes to find her, shattering that fantasy and forcing her to face reality.
