Besides that, we also have the wife constantly berating him in earlier panels. Blaming him for the kid managing to run off (despite both parents having been there), and saying he is wrong to caution the kid to not run off as it is all his fault anyway, and stuff like that. Likely to setup and show us that he is, and imply that is is why he fears returning the shoe to the kid against the moms orders.

Yeah I never said his actions were ok. I were only talking about why you would naively opt to try and help him carry that shoe (and inadvertently leave your friends alone with the guy). (or more specifically, the quoted comment was to answer someone's question on why he seemed abused (and thus pitiable causing you to [...]) until you returned from having carried said shoe)

i agree the art in this manga is sub par.
i really hate this chapter, can someone tell me if this scene is in the LN? i read it a while ago i dont remember this happening to them. i think its fucked up to have this happen a 3rd time to them and he was even there. it kinda feels like he failed to protect them, but maybe the manga will take a different route (i hope it does cause 3/4 through the LN some really gross crazy shit happens).
