My problem is not that the MC should not help her, is that the writer put her in the first place, I thought seeing her would be the catalyst to realize he needs to get a move on their relationship way back, because since chapter 15 it has stood completely still, sure we had good chapters, but it means that 31,82% (7 chapters, so 7/8 months) of the story hasn't moved things forward.

At least that's my impression.

It's not even like he has to suddenly start trying to date her again afterwards if that's what you're whining about. Guy can easily go in, save her, and say, "Sorry I'm in a new relationship now," if the ex tries to bring up the idea of them dating again. It's not that difficult so you don't have to get so worked up over him saving her meaning he's gonna try and start dating her again too or whatever.

It makes sense that he’ll get dragged in again because of his character, especially if it’s someone he once knew.
