Honestly Maria is consistently, across LN and manga, drawn as the frumpiest girl in her circle of friends. Bakarina is a lot cuter. The whole informed homeliness thing is a cliche of the genre, but Bakarina is the second or third cutest girl in the manga and so the commentary on her looks is jarring.

Well, that was the shallowest reason to get rid of Katarina. The dynamic between the president and the heroine is more interesting considering how fast it was for her to figure out who's behind it all (considering her power towards the light). I think Katarina should just stick with her reverse harem she's got going on!
