He went in to try and salvage and save what was left of the guild probably. He says "the others went to the guild and got caught in the explosion", perhaps he was too close by and so he got burnt by the explosion too

The scouters aren’t objective. They’re based on the user’s perception, so they can be fooled and manipulated.

So to summarize

The thieves guild killed the baron s wife and stole her necklace so they could basically ransom it back to the baron. He had to borrow money from the trading firm to hire the dawn mercenaries to get it back but the trading firm, thieves guild, and dawn mercenaries were all in cahoots. He had to marry a member of the trading firm because he owed them money and his daughter was going to suffer the same fate which would’ve put the barony entirely under the thieves guilds control.

but the dawn mercenaries didn’t return the necklace because they were idiots, forcing mc to kill them. The thieves guilds wanted to control her but woefully underestimated how strong she was because they were also idiots so she killed them all. And any other thief/assassin guild members she comes across. Both because they tick her off and to get combat experience
