Once again thinking of a person who has that foresight and capability and started picking the fight in that moment points more towards her not being “Just a little girl”. The phrase is trite, weak, and unfitting which is why any of the others I suggested are better and you only had the one point. Her preemptive attack alone should have been enough to put them on guard, so just accept that the writing of these people made them absolute morons instead of overconfident idiots.

I will say…the begger didn’t actually see the fight or anything that happened inside the mine. He and everyone else are probably assuming it was more of a trap than an assassination. She was also understood to be the weakest member of the assassin guild who was only brought in as a means of control controlling/blackmailing/manipulating her master.

The second part of your comment confuses me because where is any of that in the actual text? If that was the thought by the attackers then wouldn’t that mean they would have to have some deeper knowledge of rumors/goings on in the assasins guild? The thieves guild was aware of the internal struggles concerning the blackmail of the dark elf, but then also wouldn’t be afraid of the retribution by said dark elf OR consider that if the girl was weak then she may have aid from/be under direct watch of the elf at that moment?! Wouldn’t that be all the more reason to not try and mess with her?


As I mentioned in another post, considering that she would have had the foresight and skill to be able to pull of a trap that eradicates an entire guild, the phrase “just a little girl” is worse than any of the other ones that I provided because it defies all of the easily observable and unsettling degree of threat she is displaying in that moment. They are written to be absolute morons, not overconfident idiots.

After killing Dawn Mercs, she was Rank 3 with a temp boost to 4.
I'm thinking she's Rank 4 now after killing the majority of the Northern Assassins Guild herself, and able to boost to 5.

She is Rank 3 at this point in the story and at the top end of Rank 3 at that. She has also already some good non-combat abilities at Rank 4 (Stealth, Night Vision, Practical Magic) and some powerful combat abilities at rank 3 (String Control, Dark Magic, Light Magic). I think the scout was going to warn them she was a Rank 3 Dark and Light Magic user (which is super dangerous and a bad matchup for their group, they probably pegged her as a scout/assassin type only). Also, of the 9 goons that attacked her there only the mage and the guy that was interrogated at end were Rank 3 and only the mage was a threat to Aria, but since he didn't know Aria was a mage herself he got got with her chantless shield.

If I remember correctly, she doesn't become Rank 4 until the start of the academy arc, at around the first fight with Graves? And she doesn't become Rank 5 until the end of the desert/dark elves kingdom arc, right before the Rank 7 dragon fight. Kayla actually ranked up to 5 a bit before Aria.
