He's a pretty good depiction of what a career adventurer would be like. He never settled down anywhere, so he lives that kind of loose life. He must have fought a whole lot of dangerous battles to get that strong. Facing danger after danger in rough company tends to lead to a life of drinking, gambling, brothels, and such, since you never know when you will die and it's probably quite difficult to ever drop your guard, to let out some steam.
