I think you who are thinking this is a step back from last week are missinterpreting a bit. They are definitely in a physical relationship now, its just hard to define it in normal terms when you are two people stuck in a time loop together. Its also the fact that they are with other people and he doesnt know what to tell them, because their relationship really only has any meaning to the protagonists. They also dont view other people as people, just as props in their own little world, so I think he's just kinda uncomfortable being out with them.

Don't get me wrong, I ship them — but I've been corrupted by One Week Friends, so I find myself idly wondering if Momo could find some way to leave herself notes if he told her what's happening. (I don't think so. But even if she did, the most logical result a la Groundhog Day would be unthinkable.)

I do wonder what they'll do if the loops ever end. This series has such a melancholic tone, and they've lived so long... how do they ever go back to things mattering again? If you spent seemingly decades stuck in a loop of time where nothing ever mattered, is it even possible to be able to ground yourself? How could you ever think what happened was real?

I don't think this chapter is as nice as it seems. His eyes have pretty bad bags under them, and he's been on a spiral since the concert. I think the fact he can't make any other meaningful relationships because of the loop is finally hitting him for real. Even the kiss last chapter felt ominous to me.

Imagine they wake up tomorrow not knowing they are out of the loop? They choose to end the day with suicide and that's the end. Do they even check if they are still in the loop every day anymore?

Agreed with wizkas, this chapter is NOT a step back from the last chapter. Their relationship is just a bit weird, which they're both acknowledging in this chapter. There were some lines in the early chapters of the manga that made it clear they both more or less felt that there was a mutual attraction developing, but because they're in a loop and spent a disgusting amount of time together already as 'friends', the line had blurred a lot, especially given how emotionally dependent they had become by this point. They've just been avoiding intimacy, because it's a can of worms, purposefully skirting this odd line of just how much are they willing to give each other up to the other and risk a falling out which would be an absolute disaster in a time-loop.
Put another way, I think they've been somewhat on guard against each other, precisely because they're scared to reach that next level of emotional and physical vulnerability against each other. There is the saying "don't shit where you eat" and it very much applies here. The more they lean into this physicality, the more they are risking things getting weird.
Now regarding why this chapter is suddenly about them interacting with this classmate group, I think on one hand it probably is her 'showing him off' even if she is scared about materializing the relationship fully. In addition, I think the author was more focused on highlighting the fact that they are truly the only 'real' person to each other now, everyone else has become utter noise just because they're all so temporary. We know already that MC and FMC have more or less lost their humanity at this point, they've lost all sense of sanctity for human life.
There is one more thing I really want to highlight - I think the last interaction has a very sinister read to it. MC is sad that the connections he made today are temporary and FMC gets jealous and immediately kisses him as a distraction. There has always been an imbalance between the two emphasized by the author - FMC has been in the loop far longer and is much more 'gone' than MC. She's more of a ghost and has even less humanity than MC. I think this kiss is a sort of attempt by her to 'lock in' MC, a sort of "don't look at all those other people, you have me and you only need me" coupled with a jealousy of him even engaging with them. In a way, that interaction showcases that she is like poison to him. She 'wants' him to stay with her and only her, forever. This might speak into the larger narrative of this story - why are they in a loop Keep in mind that MC doesn't know what interactions FMC had with him when he was not looping yet

I mean they're already kinda seeing the people their close to as NPCs basically since they do and respond the same everytime so besides the two of them I feel it's quite hard to even see the other people as people once they've looped enough. Maybe it'll take 5 or 50 or 500 loops of interacting with one person or more but eventually, what's the point of interacting with someone that you know will respond in this exact way everytime? and they'll never remember you tomorrow. The two of them also run over people like it's nothing so they probably really do see other people as just walking meat bag NPCs now.
