Mahiru is so adorable when she's holding the cushion and being all bashful and pouting. She basically lives with Amane, and it's only a matter of time before the sleep portion also moves over to his place. Maybe not clear what Amane's actually given to Mahiru at first, but it will become very clear by the end of volume 2.

Amane wasn't wrong about the birthday thing, as I think they only started interacting around end of October, so they would have only known each other for a couple weeks, so no real reason to bring up birthdays. Amane with the bit of teasing there to fluster Mahiru, and she trying to downplay how much she really enjoys his company, lol.

It wasn't honmei chocolate. She never mentioned anything hinting that it was, either. She explicitly said that it was thanks for him helping her out, making it a form of friendship/obligatory choco.

You go that elaborate and only give it to one guy, it doesn't matter how shy and dissembling you are about the handover, it's honmei chocolate.
