Well, Amane's mom was right long ago when she hinted that Mahiru might have to take the lead, at least at first. Mahiru is now clearly not wanting to be in that "friend" label, and so she's taking those little steps forward. She'll need to know his backstory to better understand him.

When Mahiru asks him for a day with him for a date, it's gonna be hard to resist that expression she's making.
