She owned him though by not telling him Talas is still alive and she'll keep that secret to her grave. He's going to be stuck up on returning that dowry etc etc, living miserably forever. While MIL is at peace and looks like she's just treating him as white noise.poor talas mother in law. still stuck with that gruff a-hole of a husband
itll happen eventually, but im really looking forward to mr smith putting his family in their place. just constant badmouthing his future wife
Gretna Green is a village on the Scottish border that is world-famous as a romantic wedding destination. First, over the border, it became a haven for young lovers following the 1754 Marriage Act introduced in England and Wales. You were forbidden to marry without your parents' permission if you were under 21. So the young and in love began eloping to Scotland, where it was much easier to marry.
Smith is such an interesting character in a manga full of interesting characters. He's kind of a bumbling academic, but also seems to be an expert linguist and ethnographer. He's possibly an unwitting spy for Britain by way of Hawkins. But he also needs a minder; someone to tend to his daily affairs and make sure his socks match. His friendly demeanor causes him to make a lot of friends as he travels, and they all seem willing to lend a hand. When the chips are down, he will show a level of spine and daring that is unexpected. Back in Turkmenistan, I half-expected him to punch out a Russian soldier and do a runner. But now he has a strong and competent wife to ensure that he is safe and cared for.I also love how Talas has a great mind of entrepreneurship. She whipped tons of embroidery to sell for travel expanses, traded her own scarf for that one Moroccan lady for a new one, and now she's probably going to propose horse trading to Smith. She's the best bride of the series.
Wow. Thank you for this. I am reading this from a vacuum, but your historical note enriches the experience.HOLY SHIT ! If you know history, Hawkins probably just saved Nikolovsky's entire lineage by giving him the mansion in Ankara and making them move to Ankara by doing that. Around half a century after the time period Otoyomegatari set in, around %90 of the entire Muslim population of Balkans got massacred regardless of their ethnicities totaling a death toll of approximately 5.5 Million people. Ankara is one of the extremely rare settlements in Anatolia to NEVER see any combat during the Allied Invasion of Anatolia. It is probably the safest place to live in 19th-20th Century Anatolia.
