Wasn't there a large formation of player characters that got wiped out? So of course they would know that the capital was taken, most of the nobility were killed, and that the royals went into exile.

I'm just surprised there wasn't a system announcement informing the world that it happened. Maybe when / if the king was killed instead of being allowed to run away.

Just an additional note since the manga didn't cover it, the maids were formerly maids of the castle, reanimated via necromancy skills. Apparently because they had relatively higher INT stats when they were alive, they retained their skills and etiquette even after becoming zombies, including brewing tea (very important)

It always seemed odd to me that nations are tied to the royal family and not to the area and people. Somehow I expected it to work like

If you gain control of a capital and an area, then you take it over. But on the other hand, when you consider the history of the continent, it sort of makes sense that the game mechanic is to destroy kingdoms.

Ah! Good catch, I had forgotten that. Makes sense.

But I still think you should be able to conquer a kingdom, instead of just destroying it. Perhaps our dear Calamity just failed to find the exact requirements. And she was without a doubt out to destroy it, so she got what she wanted.
