Honestly thought the duo would go hard core in the end, not this flaky shit.
It's a good ending, but i thought this would have been darker given all the bs that happened in the series.

@relic626 Eh, I think it was better this way. For all the fucked up shit that happened in this series, the overall tone was never that dark, so having it end with them actually dead would have been a little off. I think it's more fitting that it ends with them giving up on a normal life, rather than giving up on life altogether. The whole series was a conflict between the protagonist's public life and his revenge. Since he didn't give up on revenge, the ending that makes sense is sacrificing that public life.

All in all, the ending wasn't that bad. I wouldn't have been realistic for Ryuzaki and Hibino to end up together, at least not until she retires from the police.

Thanks @Kendama for translating. I'm also looking forward to the conclusion of Jisatsutou, if for nothing else than to put that series out of its misery.

Wew, I'm finally able to see the English translation of the final chapter after all these years. It's a bittersweet ending but I liked that Ryuzaki took the necklace in the end, c him and Hibino would never be able to work out considering how he's now a fugitive. It signals the end of her journey with them and honestly, I'm alright with it!

Would be cool to get a sequel, starring just Hibino running around solving crimes ... and occasionally getting hints and help from the guys.

That setup worked well for Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, allowing Batou to do all the legwork, and letting the Major stay mysterious, hidden, and generally uninvolved. A similar setup is also what allows Detective Conan to drag on for hundreds of chapters - dozens of otherwise unrelated crimes and puzzles build up towards new altercations with the Black Organization every hundred chapters. It would probably be able to last a long time, just tracking clues toward Ikuo and Tatsuya, and racing against them to corner the criminals related to Mahoroba.

Mostly, I just want to see Hibino be a badass straight cop, with Assistant Commissioner Tachibana as the badass boss, and Tatsuya and Ikuo being badass assassins doing mysterious stuff in the background.

I dunno why there's some complaining bout the ending when if you think about it deeply it's just right. there's just no way Hibino and ryuzaki can end up together even if they do love each other for first and foremost Hibino is a Noble police woman while ryuzaki is still a murderer even if it was done with good intentions. for them to be together its either Hibino will have to quit being a police woman meaning abandoning her dream which is out of character for her or Ryuzaki will have to surrender and face punishment by the law which wont also happen. it's a bittersweet ending, but it fits the narrative. them ending up being together without facing any consequences will just be an Asspull

Ultimately an okay read.
Even in the last chapter, the routine of introducing a character only to have them be the criminal later on showed up lmao.
A bit repetitive for plot, and the conclusion felt pretty lackluster for having built it up the entire series, but the finale was pretty good so I can't complain entirely.

I was prepared for a worse ending from all the other reviews and comments.

Wasn't too bad.
I do agree with the general consensus, the ending arc of the true mastermind was a tad bit weaker than the rest.
