Yeah, saw about that. Zimbabwe went from the breadbasket of Africa to being a complete hellhole for anyone not related to / connected with the ruling administration, with quad-digit hyperinflation percentages some years. The worst it ever got was 79.6 billion percent month-on-month, 89.7 sextillion (8.97×10^22) year-on-year in mid-November 2008.

Their currency had to be removed, was replaced with the US dollar and South African rand, then re-introduced, then got replaced by ZiG (Zimbabwe Gold, backed by reserves of foreign currency and precious metals) because they never fixed the original issue (experienced farmers having their land confiscated for being white, and given to completely inexperienced Zimbabwean farmers). Societal and economic collapse, alongside the Mugabe presidency printing money continuously to fund military involvement in Congo, worldwide economic sanctions, and clashes between various groups & a massacre by soldiers... The list goes on and on. And it still continues to this day.

The Manga is adding extra scenes and removing context from other ones. There is a lot more exposition explaining what and why things are happening in the web novel. Have to see if it gets explained at all in future chapters.

So if the guy is just a golum master, why was he able to take out a dragon single handedly with no golums? What was the point of that?
So he's a golum master, and I guess a sword master, and he was either using potions or magic to heal that girl, and he's super strong so he can throw off the rubble of a burning building that collapsed on him. And he's got a harem and kept the kingdom afloat by himself.

Basically just more overpowered slop. I wish Mangadex added a tag for "op protagonist" so I could filter that shit out.

Maybe it's just how common it is in these stories, but I'm amazed at how completely unaware the king was of his situation.

I mean... even if the King and other nobility are greedy as fuck, you'd think that they'd be keeping an eye on anything that could affect their power base. Unless he got his crown later in life, he's probably been king for a while and you generally don't get to stay king without at least some awareness of your situation.

Charitable answer? He's a middling king who was able to bypass or ignore most issues due to the looming threat. Now that the threat is gone, he's fucked.

Less charitable answer? The world is run by morons.

And as for the economics discussion, I think the author was trying for commentary on real life, but it's undermined by this happening in a manga, where lengthy exposition is just boring. (Also, I'm no economist, but I doubt the author is, either, so their commentary may not even be accurate.)
