I don't need him to be immediately OP, but maybe just one tiny victory without a bigger loss that erases it.
Like "Oh, he can survive this quest because he's invincible for a few seconds... well, nvm, his partner suddenly turned ON friendly fire and killed him"
or "Oh, he has negative levels, but that's OK, he can wear high level gear and join an expedition to get materials... nope, he can't, because whatever"
or "Oh, he got some respect from cutting wood like a madman, and even has money now... aaaand he lost it all against bully kids"
Let me guess... he'll get a ton of iron ore, then the mining company will steal it from him, he will have to mine more again, but because of that, he will take longer than expected and lose a bit of respect from the blacksmith...
