more than last year means you take last year's amount, then add 1.5 times as much.
So if they had 2 coats of arms last year, the math becomes
2 + ( 2 x 1.5 ) = 5 coats of arms.
If they had 3 coats of arms, then it's
3 + ( 3 x 1.5 ) = 7.5 coats of arms.
What you want to say is either, "50% more than last year." or "1 and a half as much as last year."
Then if you turn the sentence into math it's either
4 + ( 4 x 50% ) = 6 or
4 x 1.5 = 6
The reason I say
English is terrible... is because a significant amount of native English speakers (at least in america) will make the exact same mistake. Since the people speaking are nobles I assume they would be smarter than me, and therefore would not make this mistake.
