He should have asked to follow the new girls into that secluded village, and asked the witch who would obviously know about something, since she's been in hiding for who knows how long, and surely escaped death from the empress.

Then you get back to the task at hand and just end it there?
I haven't seen such bad pacing since that one mangas 28 chapter boat arcs then sudden ending.
But this has constant 4-8 chapter unneeded sex mini arcs then just skips any actual plot or potential for character development.
