Actually, given the setting, that's probably something like smoked hard salami. That stuff keeps for a pretty long time. Especially if the wrapping stays intact, which is probably why they were kept in links that size.

Villagers ain't cream puffs because most of them were farmers and labor-intensive trades like carpenter, farriers, stonemasons, millers...

This is why revolts were bad news. Put a weapon in their hands and tell 'em to have at it? While the knight might be a more skilled fighter, he's not fending off five angry farmers armed with spiked clubs.

Mangaka, though, is grossly underselling it with the INT and VIT stats. Villagers actually knew their shit pretty well even if they were illiterate most of the time. They could count, do simple math (albeit in their heads), generally keep a farm running on an even keel (which requires a lot more thinking than most people realize), and during the harvest and planting seasons they could plug away all damn day long and then some.

In reality, she and her sister would be packing most of the food for the party and be able to more-or-less keep up with them. She'd also be keeping track of that food and the budget to buy said food. She'll probably work side-by-side with the cook, and also dress and butcher the monster carcasses so they have a steady supply of meat.

She may be a box of rocks in everything else, but she'll be on-point all the time with their food logistics.

Possible running gag:
"Uhm... why do you have so much food?"
"I get so huuuungry! It's a good thing everyone else here seems to be on a diet, otherwise I couldn't possibly carry enough food! Actually, I kinda worry everyone isn't eating enough..."
