Is it possible to do anything about people changing to the wrong content rating deliberately or adding false content tags? This just happened to Peep in the popular new titles list. It’s shameful that people abuse these settings for their own interest. I think people abusing their editing powers like this should have their rights revoked.

Edit: good that it was changed back, but really you should do something about those that abuse their powers like that.

I looked at PEEP and there's a depiction of rape in the first chapter followed by the MC getting pissed on, so the current erotica and sexual violence tags seem justified.

EDIT: The fourth chapter also contains a nonconsensual handjob, which further justifies the tagging.

Just curious what was the issue? besides when this kind of things happens you can report the title for correction about tags descriptions and the likes (the flag icon, information to correct, other or vandalism are the best options), in the past the ability to edit entries has been revoked to some users, obviously this could only happen after abusing the role...

Only a handful of people can change that, maybe the one who did that was completely unaware and simply changed things due the number of reports. Either way, don't be shy to bring it up and add the link to the title, normally it's enough if you explain it and use as reference what mangaupdates says. Normally those who feel offended by a series report it for no reason and their only objective is making it less visible or discouraging people from reading.

Yeah, the uploader removed it but the guy abusing their powers added the tag again. I’m fairly certain they’re either abusing their powers because they don’t like the manga, or because they want some of their own manga to be on the front page.
It’s a real bother because not only does it affect readabilty on mangadex, but it also makes it harder to read on aggregators that scrape mangadex. You often have to make an account to read then. The abuser is purposely hurting the manga for their own agenda. Really these people are assholes.

I reported it but I got refused. Scanlator fixed it, but abuser put it back again. The abuser should really lose their right to edit.

It should really be a history list of changes on every title to see who makes edits and abuse their power like this, so they can be reported and their editing rights revoked.

Since the mods can know who did the changes, eventually if it gets reported enough time they can revoke their privileges. Sometimes they even reveal themselves in the comments. Be persistent and always providing prove.

Yeah, like I just wrote I think that should be public information and listed. Then people can report those who abuse their powers.

Think erotica is fine but sexual violence is questionable since it was a delusion and just one page. Don't care much but yeah I wouldn't put sports tag on manga that has a sports day for a chapter lol.

Yeah, I think this is way too strict. Honestly it’s demotivating working on a lot of manga like this, because higher content rating than they should have make them far less visible and even hides them or require that you have to login to read them on scraping aggregators for example. The haters abusing their powers because they don’t like your manga knows this. It’s really sad that more often than not the mods take the hater’s side. Honestly I don’t know of I’m going to return to scanlation if it always has to be so unfair as this, always being on the losing side and getting put down like this.

Erotica is currently searchable by default and doesn't need any login on MangaDex, it's only excluded from Popular New Titles (if you don't have porn enabled).

I don't see how anyone is taking the haters side here, it's just about marking things correctly.

Yeah, but content warnings usually take precedence over other tags since they're meant to warn the user about some content it contains, not just show the content it contains overall.

Still believe a disclaimer or warning in chapter 1 is better than just outright tagging it with sexual violence. He's basically having a wet dream and it is just detrimental to the readership having that big red tag just because of one page which the series may or more not repeat. Especially with that description and title lol. But not my site not my rules so w.e

I don't think anyone is out to ruin it's popularity or anything though lol.

Well, people are hyper-sensitive to this stuff, they would put extra tags even if it means spoiling content or warping the meaning (Dynasty is worse on that point). It's even more astonishing when they put it for the whole series when something along those lines happens when the story is pretty developed (let's say on the 10th volume) on a chapter and then the whole series is tagged like that even if it's perfectly SFW (no suggestive/erotica/pornographic). I simply don't fight battles I cannot win and don't take anything serious regarding sites.

Still that is what it does, intentional or not. Even if one can argument that the tags aren’t malicious, they make it not appear on the sfw popular new titled list, but even worse, several aggregators that scrape mangadex will not have it visible at all on the front page, and on some places you’ll have to make a user to even read them. Mangadex is blocked in several countries and many have no choice but to read other places.
Considering that for many of us that scanlate do it to get attention and interest in the manga, promotion and hype, these tags are severely detrimental to the visibility of the manga and releases. Remember that we’re essentially breaking copyright laws and using the artist’s work without their permission, so at least we should do our outmost to make it popular so that people might buy it if it gets licensed. Malicious tagging is directly harmful for spreading the interest of the manga, and is in my opinion one of the worst things you can do. It’s really demotivating when your work won’t reach out to as many and promote the artist because someone abuses their power because they don’t like the artist’s work.

I agree.

Another big problem we have are titles that are not for instance, predominantly gender bender or girls love or such, but sometimes have just a single scene often times featuring a side character where it's depicted; they then add the tag for that genre.

Then every time that series gets a new chapter it Updates under those tag categories, even long after it's past that scene.

Then people try to read through it only to find nothing relevant to the tag, or find out it's buried a 100 chapters or more into the series.

Surely seems justified when you see what you want to see, when you don't know the author's background, and don't read any other chapter.

Well, that's what it is, right? No vote, no popular decision, the one that matters is the one with the power.

Let's just make it very clear for the community, shall we?

chapter 1 is what matters.

It depicts what the show is like - especially like Goblin Slayer who showed sexual violence in chapter 1 and slowly spreading that sexual violence all over the series.

they make it not appear on the sfw popular new titled list,
SFW? Did you read chapter 1 and 2? That's not something that is safe for work.

This title appears in Weekly Young Magazine, the gravure magazine for adults. Mangaupdates has it marked with the Adult tag and has marked it with categories that support it being tagged as erotica.
