@nutjob it's basically just adjective vs adverb, for example:

That car is much too expensive.
That shirt is much too big for you.
My coursework this year is much too heavy for me.

Here "much too" is about adjectives, expensive, big and heavy.

I've been working too much on these scans.
I ate too much when I went out for dinner.
I paid too much for that car.

Here "too much" is about verbs, working, eating and paying.

I'm sure you've seen it before!

Man that poor kid and oh my god, that bastard. I want to... fucking smack him over the head.
It's been a while since I have got to a read a quality manga like this and this shit came out in 2003. It should have been officially translated years ago.
