Unfortunately, "that thing that is so romantic in stories is actually harassment/sexual assault" is still common because for the longest time they were socially accepted. Additionally, stories tend to be really slow to catch up with societal changes.I know this is a tangent and not really part of the story but I just don't understand "I kept confessing until she said yes" as something even remotely romantic. Like when someone says that they sure are just saying that the only answer they'd accept is the one where the other person does as they please.
And it's like really common, both in stories where that harrasment leads to a true love and where it doesn't and it's just never really remarked on as the harrasment it genuinely is.
Not only socially accepted but propagandized all over media. Just have to pull up any popular romantic comedies in the last few decades for examples to demonstrate the "ideal" way to get into a relationship, which often involves one side (typically the man) persistently chasing after the other (typically the woman). The constant persistence is depicted as some kind of a positive necessity, as if it's just a matter of putting in the effort and you too can be in a relationship, and if you can't do so it's because you just didn't like them enough.Unfortunately, "that thing that is so romantic in stories is actually harassment/sexual assault" is still common because for the longest time they were socially accepted. I'm pretty sure that we've had that at least alluded to by Ema in one of the earlier chapters.Hario, big dummy, the guy couldn't accept no as an answer and now he's surprised that she's drifting away from him.
I'm pretty sure Ema just give up and surrender after the x times he and other dudes came to her asking for a date or wanted to confess their love. I would say she chooses Hario because he was the less horrible of all her pretender.
Also, I think the friends and family played a big part in making them date and finally marry.
Right, like now I kinda don't feel bad that she'll eventually steal his wife away because wdym you wouldn't take no for an answer and she eventually gave in because you were the least bad option if she HAD to choose because of societal pressures 💀I know this is a tangent and not really part of the story but I just don't understand "I kept confessing until she said yes" as something even remotely romantic.
