I mean it makes a lot of sense when you consider that "God's power" doesn't seem to be a actual thing in this world- 'Holy' power is basically magic except it looks white and pure, so they trick the populace. For someone to pretend that they are chosen by god when they aren't, and they know it, takes a special type of narcissist.
