@HoangDinh its a lot of money to throw away (in the sense taht it takes up a lot of space), he was hoping to find proof that Sakura put the money there and hand in the money and the proof to the cops to show he had nothing to do with it, if he disposes of the money and gets found out it makes him look guilty

Yup, if he doesn't plan to make use of the money shoulda just burn it. Doing Keikaku won't do anything good as you know the end of Death Note.
