I would like to request a Promo tag added to the format tags. Promotional comics are being used to draw attention to Webnovels and they are currently been classified as one shots. A lot of scanlators are picking these projects up recently. But unlike one shots they aren’t self-contained stories. They are instead a prologue or first chapter of a longer arc and for readers who aren’t into Webnovels, it only creates frustration at an incomplete story. Some groups do title the chapter as promo, but others only use titles like ‘Chapter 0’ which could easily be a prologue. I would like for a promos to be a searchable tag, so that people seeking a new Webnovel have a convenient way of searching. And people who don’t want them, can easily exclude them from their searches.

Thank you for considering my request

Any non-original manga is promo manga. And there's already tag for this. It's called adaptation.

Looks like people have been emboldened by the recent surge of tag suggestions. If they throw dozens at the mods, surely at least one will make it through, right?

And now I realize that some of the blame (a very small portion btw) falls on me as well. Oops.

Also, -1.

while technically true in some ways I disagree with this from a working perspective and from the basic intent that a promo is meant to draw attention to the original source rather the what is being made. That is kind of like saying a movie is a promo for a book. It may be adapted from the book, but I hardly view that as a promo in the sense that it is meant to direct back to the book and make more money off the book. One or so chapters without an intention of finishing it are more like a commercial not an adaptation. Can't remember the title but I've even seen some where the group has mentioned the novel and said basically go read it. There is one where they did three chapters but from different sections, not continuous.

I value my time and would rather not waste it reading something that is a promo. This is even more true when it is labeled as a oneshot. I love oneshots and hate wasting my time on promo's.

+1 for the tag.

Thank you guys for keeping me honest. I kind of forgot to follow up on the first post because of a bunch of personal and professional events. I remembered the suggestion to add the poll and thought that might at least let me see if I’m alone in my opinion. Thanks for the suggestion @bigtittedoneesan. I’m not going to push this after this post but I did want to see how this pans out because promos are making it hard for me to find new manhwas. I appreciate all your opinions and I will respect the decision of the poll

What does this tag offer that "oneshot" doesn't? Either way, it's an indicator that a work is a single chapter.

@BraveDude8
I think this is more in reference to the adaptations of light novels that go for one or two volumes (usually the length of one arc of the novel), and end with a teaser of the rest of the story and straight-up say "see the story continue in the light novel series"

I think some publishers are notorious for almost always doing this, regardless of how popular a full adaptation might be.

EDIT: wait, no, they're not talking about that. Those should be kept in consideration, though

@BraveDude8 to me a oneshot is self contained, the story ends in one chapter. A promo may be one or more chapters of a story but the story is incomplete. I think there are many out there like myself who love oneshots but have no interest in a one chapter promo. For me promo's are a complete wast of my time.

see this thread for more explanation.

They want additional restrictions/rules for adding a new title ( make uploaders add more info )
+ Chapter upload: some uploaders will name it "Promo", some don't.
For oneshots, name the chapter "Oneshot" and leave the volume and chapter numbers empty (except use volume 0 for oneshots inside their serialization entries).
The main problem is uploaders...

no just another tag that can be requested to be added. If the uploaders do it great if not someone else could make the request. Just like is done for Harem, Comedy, Isekai...

@schlo you can request ( Report ) to change chapter name to "Promo" ...
+ add tag "Adaptation"+"Oneshot" = "Promo"
