@yumian I found this manga first and only know about the novel after, so yes, I see your comment kinda prejudiced there. What happened to the first queen is sad yes, but she's literally the one who made it worse on herself. She's the one that keep offering other women to him. Honestly, from that point on I literally think that the First Queen didn't have any right to complain anymore. I think maybe you forget that this is a historical manga (and novel), which means there are references to what actually happened at that time. We really can't read this story with modern mindset. It's just the first chapter and I'm pretty sure it would be more about politics rather than romance (I still haven't read any chapters of the novel).
Also, I think this is different from Lady to Queen too. In Lady to Queen the King deliberately brought in someone who can't conceive as Queen to be sacrificed in the future because the one he loves have low status even though she can conceive. The reasoning and background story are too different (except for the fact that both the Emperor/King was born of a concubine/lover).
